COMUNE DI REGGIO EMILIA

Reggio Emilia is a city in northern Italy, in the Emilia-Romagna region. It has about 171,944 inhabitants and is the main municipality of the Province of Reggio Emilia. In 2014 the European Commission launched the initiative called “Mayors Adapt”, which aims to promote the adaptation of cities to climate change. The initiative wants to help cities to take preventive action against impacts due to extreme weather events, heat waves, floods, floods, droughts and public health problems, which occur despite efforts to reduce climate-altering emissions. The Municipality of Reggio Emilia joined the Initiative “Mayors Adapt” and started a path aimed at addressing the issue of adaptation to climate change at the local level, confronting the various actors of the territory to arrive at defining a strategy and shared actions. In this way the Authority’s commitment to the problem of climate change has already started for some years now with the signing of the “Covenant of Mayors” and the drafting of a Plan to
reduce climate-altering emissions (PAES).
