At the end of September, under the sunny skies of Paris, the Roofing Tiles Product Group of Tiles & Bricks Europe (TBE) held its meeting, hosted by FFTB – Fédération Française des Tuiles et Briques. The event brought together experts and representatives from European associations in the clay roofing sector to assess current and future challenges facing the industry.
Central to the discussions were key topics related to the evolution of European and national regulatory frameworks, particularly the revision of technical standards within the CPR Acquis, which is expected to significantly impact the construction sector in the coming years.
Among the highlights of the day was the update on the Life SuperHero project, a European initiative that promotes innovative solutions for passive building cooling and supports the adoption of ventilated and permeable roofs. The project aims to improve energy efficiency and indoor comfort through natural ventilation techniques and is based on four operational pillars: proposals for the evolution of regulations and standards, collaboration with local authorities to promote best practices, development of dedicated software for the calculation and design of ventilated roofs, industrial transferability and replicability of the identified solutions
During the meeting, Arianna Latini and Elisa Di Giuseppe, representing the project’s scientific partner (Università Politecnica delle Marche), presented preliminary results from the SuperHero demonstrators, specifically illustrating:
- the renovation and monitoring plan for pilot buildings;
- the overall structure of the monitoring system, developed to measure the thermal and energy performance of roofs in real time;
- the HU-BES platform, designed to collect and share data on user behavior and interaction between occupants and buildings;
- subscription and access methods for the HU-BES platform, which allows partners and researchers to consult data transparently;
- a demonstration of the user interface, designed to make performance parameters easy to read.
The Paris meeting reaffirmed the central role of Tiles & Bricks Europe as a platform for dialogue and cooperation among associations and companies from 21 EU member states and Switzerland. The association represents the interests of the European clay products industry, which continues to demonstrate its relevance: durable, accessible materials that combine architectural tradition with construction innovation. A heritage that looks to the future, offering effective solutions to reduce energy consumption and emissions, thus contributing to the sustainable transition of the European building sector.
